Vaalvi : Movie Review (Marathi)

                                                 Vaalvi : Movie Review

Vaalvi, meaning termite in Marathi is the title name of the film and I was curious to know the reason behind the title and chose to watch the film, guess what, the film kept me engaged throughout its coarse and finally I realized the reason behind the title Vaalvi.

Vaalvi has all the ingredients of a perfect dark comedy, director Paresh Mokashi hits the nail on the head with his recent release, Aniket (Swapnil Joshi) and his lover Devika (Shivani Surve) sequentially plan to get rid of his wife Avani (Anita Date), they plan everything right from the start to end as to how Aniket would eliminate Avani without leaving any hint behind that would lead the investigation to the both of them. Now will they be able to execute what they have planned forms the crux of the story, but the story is not as simple and linear as you may think, because there are a lot of surprises and twists in the plot that makes this movie an entertaining watch.

The film has an amazing screenplay with a mysterious but a comic flow, which holds the attention of the viewers and it actually generates a loaded curiosity which peaks in the second half of the drama, especially the road journey in the end, everything is well placed in the screenplay. Inspite of the plot being tense the comic punches come at the right time and when I say comic punches there are no long comic scenes but comic punches throughout the drama which work extremely well with the thrilling moments. The best part is, humor is triggered naturally with conversations and incidents, the point is that the actors are not doing something extraordinary or different to generate humor, instead it is the messy situation that the characters are trapped in which leads to comic smashes. Then the background music is also designed in such a way that it compliments the mood of the film very well. All the actors have performed outstandingly well in the movie and none of them leave any stone unturned to deliver what was expected from them. Subodh Bhave who appears in the second half excels in his role and his banter with Devika is fun to watch. Apart from all the main characters Namrata Awate Sambherao has a small role of a talkative women who loves to inquire about everything happening around her leaves her mark through her wonderful performance. Director Paresh Mokashi has carved out a niche audience for himself who eagerly wait for his films to roll out in theatres and Vaalvi surely satisfies their thirst for a good Paresh Mokashi film.

Vaalvi is a successful experiment in Marathi Cinema and its greatest achievement is that it will encourage other film makers in the industry to experiment with their films. It is a must watch film for movie lovers who love to indulge in good content irrespective of language, but it is high time Marathi audiences show their support to such films, it surely deserves their sincere attention because such experiments need encouragement from the audiences. Kudos to Paresh Mokashi and the entire time for coming up with this masterpiece that firmly talks about the solid content that Marathi Cinema has to offer.
